Faculty Position in Film and Media Production
Department: NUQ Communication Program
Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a full-time open rank faculty appointment in Film and Media Production, in the Communication Program, to begin August 1, 2025.
Production faculty contribute to research and scholarship through high-quality, nationally, and internationally recognized films and/or other creative works. In addition to a demonstrated creative research track record commensurate with rank, or highly promising research trajectory for emerging candidates, applicants should have the following: work that is comparative or transnational, competence in working with globally diverse communities, a strong commitment to excellence in inclusive teaching and mentoring, and dedication to institutional service and shared governance.
Teaching expectations include two courses per semester, to include some of the following courses: Narrative Film Production, Documentary Production, Cinematography and Lighting, Post-Production, Screenwriting, Directing, Producing, Production Design, Acting and Sound/Composition. Ideally, the candidate would also have an interest in research and teaching opportunities across other areas, such as digital animation, interactive game design, or the like. Candidates should also be willing to serve on the Film and Design Minor Committee and/or be the Faculty Advisor to Studio 20Q, NU-Q’s student-led film production company. There are also opportunities to collaborate with NU-Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, Artificial Intelligence and Media Lab, and Media Majlis.
Candidates must hold an MFA and/or PhD by the position start date. They should also have teaching experience in higher education, significant professional experience, and be familiar with current digital production practices. NU-Q’s production courses employ state of the art equipment, software, and studios to support and facilitate student learning.
