Creative Arts and Industries – School of Architecture and Planning

The School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland seeks to appoint a Head of School at either Professor or Associate Professor level, dependent on experience. The successful applicant will work as Deputy Head of School for 2018, before taking up a four-year term as Head from 2019. At the end of the term, he or she might elect to serve a second term as Head, to take up another leadership position in the University or to return to teaching, research and service in the School.

The School of Architecture and Planning in the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries is New Zealand’s leading educator of architects, urban designers and urban planners. It is highly regarded for its advanced interdisciplinary study and research, innovative design focus and studio based pedagogy. It has a diverse and internationally recognised academic staff and strong connections with its professional communities. Teaching and research are supported by an outstanding library and databases, excellent digital and material workshops, and specialist studio facilities.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide innovative and high quality leadership. This includes role modelling leadership behaviours as well as setting direction, achieving results and enabling staff in the School to achieve their best in teaching, result and administration.

Applicants must hold a qualification in architecture, urban planning or urban design and have completed a PhD. Preference will be given to applicants who have a demonstrated record of School or Faculty leadership, such as a headship, deanship, associate deanship or programme directorship. Experience in supervising doctoral students to completion would be an advantage.

Further details on the School of Architecture and Planning and the position are available from the Dean, Prof Diane Brand, email: d.brand@auckland.ac.nz
