Graduate Teaching Assistantship Position in Elementary Music Education
For the 2018-19 academic year, the Texas A&M University-Commerce Department of Music will fill one Graduate Teaching Assistantship position for Elementary General Music.
This assistantship position requires a two-year commitment to a residential graduate program in music, including Summer 2019 (unless applicant has earned Orff Schulwerk or Kodály certification*), culminating in a Master of Music (Elementary Specialization).
*During Summer 2019, the candidate will be expected to complete levels training in Orff Schulwerk and/or Kodály courses in a location of choice.
Responsibilities: 20 hours per week of assistance with teaching and administrative aspects of the elementary music program. At times, duties will be assigned outside the elementary music program that are compatible with the strengths of the candidate.
Stipend: $4000.00 per semester and waiver of tuition for up to six credits per semester.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in music education, state teaching certification, and admission to the Graduate School. Teaching experience and technology skills preferred.
Renewal: Renewal is based on an annual review of the graduate student’s academic performance, performance of assigned duties, needs of the department, and available funds.

About the Graduate Degree: This 30-hour program offers a combination of coursework in music education (13 hours), music history, research, philosophy, and theory (12 hours), and performance study opportunities (2 hours). Students also complete an independent study project on a subject of their choice within the realm of elementary music.
No GRE is required for admission.
Students will be challenged to develop a greater understanding and mastery of the music teaching-learning processes, to improve personal musicianship, and to become leaders within the music education profession.
