The School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Graphic Design. The School offers a BS degree in Digital Media and Design as well as BA and BFA in Studio Art.
Candidates for this position should be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary art and design environment. The candidate’s pedagogical focus will entail practices of graphic communication primarily for screen and digital applications. We are searching for someone capable of teaching the technical aspects of the discipline, with a strong understanding of contemporary art and design practices. A successful candidate would be able to teach both the formal and conceptual elements of design. To that end, applicants should have a strong understanding of design history, visual rhetoric, and the social functions of design. The School seeks applicants who already have a professional knowledge of the field and can teach both basic graphic and web design classes. Experience in the areas of web design, interactive design, mobile apps and emergent media/hybrid forms are all desirable.
While this is a one-year appointment, a successful candidate would be given the opportunity to compete for a full-time, tenure-track position in art studio and digital design next year.
The candidate is expected to teach two courses per semester, advise students, and contribute to the vibrant culture of the School. The position starts August 15, 2018.
Application review will begin April 30, 2018 but the position is open until filled. Applicants should submit a letter of application, which contains a link to the applicant’s website with examples of creative work and a CV. Please include the names and contact information for three references when prompted in the application. This information will be used to solicit reference letters from your references within the employment system.
