    Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. A reasonable estimate for Lecturer positions is $66,259-$100,244.

    Percent time: 33% -100%

    Anticipated start: Appointments for fall semester are usually reviewed in April and May. Appointments for spring semester are usually reviewed in October and November. Appointments for summer sessions are usually reviewed in January and February.

    Position description

    The Department of Film & Media at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach undergraduate-level courses, should a need arise, in any of the following possible areas:
    Reading and Composition (first- and second-year university writing courses using film and media materials)
    Special Topics in Film and Media (courses on themes, genres, or auteurs)
    General Film History

    General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and campus web-based course resources.

    Advanced degree

    Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
    For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

    Preferred qualifications
    -MA/MFA (or equivalent international degree) in Film and Media (or related field)
    -Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level in the U.S.
    -If hired to teach R&C, demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English.
    -If hired to teach a topics course, demonstrated knowledge of the area being taught through teaching experience.
    -Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) may be preferred, depending on courses being taught.
