Game Design/Animation Digital Media Fine Arts - General
The Game Art Department of Laguna College of Art + Design, is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position with appointment to begin in August 2021. The College is located in an internationally-recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California, and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Drawing and Painting, Game Art, Illustration, and Entertainment Design. The Game Art program has been consistently ranked as one of the Top 20 game programs by the Princeton Review for the last several years. Our location allows us to pull adjunct professors from several of the major game studios that call Southern California their home, which allows our students to learn from some of the leading artists in their discipline.
This position reports to the Chair of Game Art Program and will work alongside the Chair in the routine duties of the major. All full-time faculty members work collectively to drive the Game Art major into the future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaches a full course load of 18 units per year and maintains regular on-campus office hours (classes may include: 3D Modeling/Sculpting, Game Prototyping, Advance Topics in Games, etc.)
Instructs, manages, and supervises students in classrooms through demonstrations, discussions, visual aids, field trips, individualized instruction, and lectures
Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study based on learning outcomes
Attends faculty senate meetings; serves on committees as assigned
Aids game students in obtaining their career goals while also exposing them to other opportunities that they may not have considered
Assists students in course scheduling
Assists department advisers, Chair, and other faculty in maintaining an exceptional game program with a positive learning environment
Participates in Admissions recruitment events such as portfolio days, student registration, LCAD Open House, New Student Events, and assists with transcript/portfolio evaluation of transfer students
Helps create connections with other LCAD majors and other schools
Works with Chair and Faculty in development of departmental policies, curriculum content, instructional standards, and evaluation methods
Participates in student assessment, including Advancement Review

Game or Entertainment industry experience desired
Digital and/or Traditional Art/Graphics skills
Some administrative supervisory experience
Self-motivated, focused, positive attitude, and proactive
Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, demanding environment
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to develop strong relationships with all levels of employees, management, students, industry open house participants, and community members
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Strong organizational skills
Proficiency with Adobe Suite, Unity, Unreal, Autodesk 3DS Max or Maya (or equivalent)
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office software programs preferred (or equivalent)

Must be able to drive personal vehicle for business purposes and must pass DMV background check and have minimum insurance requirements as set by LCAD.
Five or more years of teaching experience
Programming experience (mainly C# and/or C++)
Physical Essential Functions
Sitting, keyboarding, may lift objects up to 20 lbs. without assistance, grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, and moving from one place to another. This position takes place indoors in an office environment sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer. Occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.
