The Media Arts Department at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University seeks applications for a part-time lecturer in Virtual Reality two introductory level classes, one in Fall 2024 and one in spring 2025. Within the SMFA curriculum, Virtual Reality is positioned as a hybrid form related to the mediums of gaming, cinema, and installation art.

For both Fall and Spring semester, the teaching load will be teaching one section of the course Virtual Reality to undergraduate art majors. Requirements include: a proficiency in Unity software for VR production; knowledge of the production of Unity projects for Oculus headsets; familiarity with the use of existing Unity scripts for interactivity and/or knowledge of C# scripting; a thorough knowledge of the discourses (theory and history) of digital art, cinema, and installation within a fine arts context; a demonstrated commitment to teaching; the ability to teach students with a wide range of cross-disciplinary interests and degrees of technical proficiency, and to support their work both conceptually and technically; and good interpersonal skills, including clarity, generosity, and creativity. Areas of specialization may include: 3D software, augmented reality, cinema, installation and sculpture, performance, narrative and documentary forms, journalism, activist art, coding, game forms, and/or other intersections between technology and contemporary fine art.

 

Qualifications

Candidates should have an MFA in Studio Art or an equivalent degree, and should have college level teaching experience, preferably at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

     Three to five samples of professional work (can be excerpts). (Use Vimeo or YouTube link or a PDF with embedded links.) Total length of the three samples not to exceed 30 minutes. If the work samples include installed video provide documentation of the video installation if available.

     Links to longer works may also be submitted, if so please provide cue points indicating what part is to be viewed.
