The Drawing and Painting Department at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University invites applications from practicing artists for a Part-Time Lecturer position in Spring 2026. The selected candidate will teach two courses on our Medford campus: Painting: Foundation (Mondays, 8:30 AM-1:30 PM) and Contemporary Portraiture (Tuesdays, 1:00-6:00 PM). The first class meeting is January 20, 2026, and the final class is April 27.
Qualifications
An MFA is required. Additional qualifications include at least two years of prior teaching experience at the college level and an active exhibition record. Candidates should have a studio practice centered on drawing and/or painting and demonstrate the ability to teach at multiple levels, from introductory to advanced. The department values approaches that expand the boundaries of cultural theory, art, and technology, including teaching from non-Western perspectives. Other desirable qualities include a record of community engagement and mentorship within and outside of the classroom, and experience working with first-generation and non-traditional students.
