DUTIES:
The Schools of Music and Theatre & Dance at the University of South Florida are searching for a creative and collaborative music director. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, continuing position. This appointment has career advancement and promotion opportunities similar to traditional tenure track positions.
The successful candidate will be the Assistant Director of Vocal Ensembles and the resident Music Director for the Musical Theatre area. The musical director will offer a variety of vocal ensemble performance experiences for undergraduate and graduate students that include both traditional school choral ensembles and groups that primarily perform music representative of urban/multi-ethnic communities, they will music direct one theatre production each Fall and Spring semesters, and they will offer courses related to musical theatre that support theatre and dance majors.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal or Masters Degree, or equivalent professional experience in related arts fields required. Prior experience music directing/conducting both musical theatre productions on the main stage season, and competitive concert and style-based vocal ensembles is expected. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate advanced keyboard skills (including the ability to sight-read and accompany musical theatre classes).
Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of the music and theatre industries including contemporary commercial trends in vocalizing (including singing, rapping, etc.), and be able to teach basic music theory to theatre students.
