Position Summary
The
Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo - The State University of New York (
SUNY) seeks applications for a
Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor (teaching professor/professor of practice) to lead core elements of the architectural design curriculum. This is a full-time, teaching-focused position.
The department is interested in candidates from various backgrounds, including those with academic, professional, and/or industry experience. The department also seeks to address the under-representation of women and minorities among its faculty, and asks all candidates, regardless of background, to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence, and to embody the values of public education. This includes the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff with disabilities, from diverse racial and ethnic groups, and across socio-economic and geographic backgrounds.
Ideal candidates will possess the ability to coordinate core studios, lead pedagogical transformations, and work with academic- and career-advisement staff to guide students. The department is particularly interested in candidates with the capacity to teach one or more of the following:
- undergraduate and graduate beginning design
- core design concepts on programming, site design, systems integration, etc.
- introductory and advanced media, representation, and digital technologies
The Department of Architecture excels in faculty research - frequently ranking in the top five nationally for faculty research - and alums often exceed the national average in architecture exam pass rates.

Minimum Qualifications
- A degree in architecture or an allied field, as well as a masters or doctoral degree, are required.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff and students to promote a positive climate and a coordinated student experience.
