Dean, John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design

The Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto offers a suite of globally recognized and professionally accredited graduate programs, including at the PhD level, in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, forestry, and visual studies—as well as unique undergraduate programs that use architecture, technology, landscape, forestry, urban design, as well as contemporary art and its related critical practices to supplement a broad, liberal arts-based education. The University is conducting an international search for the Dean, John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, and welcomes applications, nominations, and expressions of interest.

Across its multiple sites—from One Spadina Crescent to the Borden and Forestry buildings—the Faculty fosters a vibrant, interdisciplinary hub for students, scholars, and professionals interested in creating more culturally engaged, ecologically sustainable, socially just, and critically conceived environments and cultural representations. For more information about the Faculty, visit https://www.daniels.utoronto.ca/.

Reporting to the Vice-President and Provost, the Dean serves as a member of the University’s senior leadership team and is responsible for shaping the Faculty’s strategic vision, advancing academic priorities, enhancing the student experience, and overseeing the effective administration of the division. In a role that combines academic leadership with executive oversight, the Dean will champion excellence in teaching, research, and public engagement, all while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture that strengthens connections within the Faculty and across the University. The Dean is responsible for fostering and supporting excellence in teaching, research, artistic research, and service; enhancing the Faculty’s domestic and international reputation and profile; and building relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external audiences, including alumni, donors, governments, cultural institutions, and institutional, corporate, and community partners and professional bodies.

The successful candidate will be a highly respected scholar and academic leader, with a track record of advancing education through excellence, innovation, and a commitment to equity. They will have demonstrated effective leadership in complex academic environments, earning a reputation for sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to foster thoughtful dialogue and meaningful collaboration.

The University will begin considering applicants immediately and will continue to do so until the position is filled.
