Faculty Position in Digital Filmmaking (Cinematography) at Assistant Professor / Associate Professor Level
The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Digital Filmmaking (Cinematography). The appointment to Assistant or Associate Professor level, will be commensurate with experience.
Suitable candidates must have significant experience in all aspects of cinematography, a holistic understanding of the filmmaking process, an appreciation for cinematic narrative and storytelling, as well as evolving cinematic forms. Expertise in at least one or more current technologies, including virtual production, hybrid live-action animation capture, or visual effects cinematography will be an advantage. Applicants should demonstrate a sustained track record in film practice and possess appropriate teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing an innovative curriculum that aligns with the needs of today’s industry and society. These positions are research-based, requiring either a well-established research profile or the ability to quickly establish one.
As a candidate, you should demonstrate the following:

Significant experience and expertise in all aspects of cinematography, expertise in at least one or more up-to-date technologies: virtual production, hybrid live-action animation capture, or visual effects cinematography will be seen favorably.

A holistic understanding of the filmmaking process, and an appreciation for cinematic narrative and storytelling as well as evolving contemporary cinematic and visual narrative forms.

Practical and technical skills supported by critical and conceptual theory, encompassing diverse approaches to filmmaking throughout all aspects of production and image post-production.

Expertise in overseeing students' projects related to digital filmmaking, from initial concept, screenwriting, production, and post-production to final image color grading.

Passion exploring the filmmaking beyond its current forms. This could include traditional scripted filmmaking, serialized content, short-format videos, social media, or any other media that engages in creative communication.

Strong communication and presentation skills for delivering engaging and dynamic courses

Appropriate experience in teaching and developing curriculum at a tertiary level, following established pedagogical approaches.

Ability to actively engage in both practical and theoretical aspects of cinematography

A collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to work effectively with colleagues

A track record and enthusiasm for research in these fields, including forms of publication such as conference papers, journal articles, screenings, or exhibitions.
ADM offers a studio-based professional education in a comprehensive university setting, and offers two BFA programs: Media Art (with specializations in Film, Animation, Games, and Photography) and Design Art (with specializations in Interactive Design, Visual Communication, and Product Design). ADM also offers MA and PhD programs by research across all areas of the school.
The successful applicant should have a strong professional background in digital filmmaking and university-level teaching experience, including mentoring final student projects or theses. A strong international reputation, significant exhibition or publishing record, and a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) are preferred, or exceptional professional experience.
The candidate must demonstrate the potential to bring international visibility to the school through high-quality academic scholarship and/or impactful creative activity. Tenure-track hires are expected to pursue activities that will position them as well-known experts in their field.
The school expects a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; school and university committee service; and community engagement. The university provides many opportunities for funded faculty research and excellent facilities for studio production.
