The SMFA at Tufts University Fibers Sculpture Area is seeking a Part-Time Lecturer for a one-semester appointment for Spring 2025. The successful candidate will teach SCP101, Introduction to Sculpture
 
Course Description:
 
Introduces students to contemporary concepts, theories, materials and methodologies for making sculpture. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
 
The applicant is expected to be proficient with working in a variety of sculptural techniques and in teaching safe engagement with introductory-level wood shop practices. Familiarity with working in welding and mold-making studios is preferred.
 
The course is scheduled to meet Thursdays from 2:30 PM - 7:30PM. The first class meeting will be held January 15th, 2024. 
 
For additional compensation, the instructor can also serve on end-of-semester review boards, providing feedback to students working across all media. 
 

 

Qualifications

MFA is required. Additional qualifications include prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicant must demonstrate excellence in scholarship, research, lecturing, and have an active exhibition record. The successful applicant should be able to lead in-class discussions, demonstrate tools/technique, cite artistic examples when appropriate, review assigned readings, engage with students, and overall create an inclusive class environment.
