The School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky seeks a full-time faculty/technician in digital fabrication and modeling. This position is responsible for teaching studio art courses in digital fabrication as well as overseeing the daily operation of the digital fabrication labs and equipment within the Fabworks facility. Primary facilities covered include a self and full service 3D printing lab containing multiple prosumer machines, and a fabrication space with a large format laser cutter, CNC router and related equipment.

This position carries a 50% teaching and 50% technician division of responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in digital fabrication and with leading or facilitating regular equipment maintenance to keep tools in working order and minimize downtime. As a technician, this individual will assist with the organization of lab processes that facilitate an open and accessible learning environment.

Responsibilities include:
Teach basic, intermediate, and advanced courses in 3-d modeling and fabrication for both fine artists and students in the Digital Media and Design program. Provide and maintain a safe working environment for students, faculty and staff. Supervise and enforce policies for use of the making facilities by students, faculty, and staff. Support and maintain multiple digital fabrication related services, with focus on 3D printing and laser cutting, within the facilities. Lead internal maintenance and/or arrange for third party maintenance of machines/facilities. Work with College of Fine Arts IT staff to organize software & hardware updates as needed. Organize equipment use demonstrations and orientations for students and faculty, including scheduling, maintaining public calendars, and tracking attendance. Support learning objectives during facility open working hours. Train and oversee student technical lab staff. Create clear, accurate, user-friendly documentation and instructions for all equipment/processes. Assist with inventory oversight and ordering of materials and supplies.
